Community organizing is a process where people who live in proximity to each other, come together in an organized manner and act in their shared self-interest. Unlike those who promote more sensual community building, community organizers generally assume that social change necessarily involves conflict and social struggle in order to generate collective power for the powerless. A core goal of community organizing is to generate durable power for an organization representing the community, allowing it to influence key decision-makers on a range of issues. Ideally, this can give community organizing groups a voice in important decision-making plans that help to serve the surrounding community.

From sharing a dream to constructing an AIDS Monument, The Wall-Las Memorias Project has been in the forefront of change in the Latino community. The organization has been able to gather support from community gatekeepers who initially would not utter the word AIDS or even talk about sexuality, and eventually created a movement that continues today.

The team members at The Wall-Las Memorias Project are agents of change. They have been trained to engage community members and help address issues that improve the general welfare of its people. Through that process they provide services.
